Tanner is home to Tanner High School (The Rattlers). This is a 2A school in the states classification system. They are consistently in the top 10 rankings in basketball. They have a lot of great athletes.
On April 3, 1974, the area was affected by the Super Outbreak; two violent tornadoes hit the community within 30 minutes. The two tornadoes were classified as an F5 and F4 event on the Fujita scale, respectively. After the first tornado passed through the area, a second tornado surprised the rescue effort. In total, 50 were killed by those tornadoes. Fred Lackey stole an ambulance during these tornadoes in an effort to help people that were affected by the storms.
Tanner is home to one of the biggest Truck and Tractor Pull events in the South. Each year thousands flock to the Mecca of mudding and tractors to watch these events. Be sure and wear shoes if it rains though, cause when wearing flip flops it makes for some messy feet. Also vehicles get stuck and it's really just not very pleasant. So.... pray for sunshine.
